A teenager died after being hit by a sword in the chest during preparations for Muharram in the Adhikaripara area of Jagtai Gram Panchayat under Suti police station in Murshidabad.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Asikul Sheikh (13). He was a resident of Durgapur of Nimitita Gram Panchayat under Samsherganj police station. The body was sent to Jangipara Hospital for post-mortem.
According to eyewitnesses, preparations were going on for a sword fight for Muharram in Adhikaripara area on Tuesday afternoon. Many people were watching the sword fight in the Ganga riverside area. Asikul Sheikh was also there.
Suddenly, a sword slipped from the hand of a local youth and hit Asikul in the chest. He was taken to the hospital. Doctors declared him dead.
